It all began with an idea.
In 2019, daughter Sarah had an idea. She decided to raise and sell hogs to 4-H and FFA exhibitors for the county fair and the FFA Ham, Bacon & Egg Show. Everything was moving along smoothly until 2020, when COVID hit Hampshire County. Schools were closed, and suddenly Sarah had a bunch of hogs on her hands. The market wasn’t in her favor—hogs were only selling for pennies on the pound at the stock sale.
But Sarah didn’t stop there. She did what we all know as the "COVID pivot." She opened her own business, worked with a local butcher to process the hogs, and started selling the meat and other farm goods. But there was still the challenge of getting customers to the farm stand. That’s when she thought of her Dad’s BBQ. His smoked meats had always drawn a crowd, and she knew the smell of the smoke would bring people in.
And the rest? That’s history. What started as a simple idea from Sarah to keep her business going has turned into Gig’s BBQ—where family, friends, and community come together to enjoy great food made with passion.
